Quick Grades: Spurs at Hornets
By LJ EllisSan Antonio Dispatch |
Talk about a tale of two halves. In the first half, the Hornets dominated the action while the Spurs appeared to be playing in quicksand. Down 61-44 at the half, San Antonio appeared headed to their second loss of the season to the Hornets. Not so fast. In the second half, the Spurs went small and absolutely destroyed the Hornets on their way to a 109-95 victory. Defensively, they double-teamed often and ferociously scrambled to cover up any holes. On offense, the execution was good, the ball movement was very good and the shooting was even better. Those final two quarters, in which the Spurs outscored the Hornets 65-34, were an early Christmas present for Spurs fans.
Tim Duncan B- Scored well and defended the rim. A bit soft and slow overall, though.
Manu Ginobili A+ Ginobili willed the team to the win. Great in every aspect.
Tony Parker C+ Scoring was MIA. Lacked energy. To his credit, D and passing a plus.
Richard Jefferson A- Buried his shots and second half defense was spectacular.
DeJuan Blair C+ Played only seven minutes. Didn’t have time to do much.
George Hill A+ Now this is the George Hill we know and love. Relentless on both ends.
Gary Neal B+ Started off poorly but kept fighting and fighting. Eventually broke thru.
Antonio McDyess B+ Didn’t do much in 1st half. Huge in 2nd half, especially in 4th.
Tiago Splitter B Gave very good effort in first half but hurt team’s rhythm.
Chris Quinn B- Didn’t do anything wrong in his 10 minutes. Also did little right.
Matt Bonner D Wasn’t good on defense, didn’t rebound and didn’t help on offense.
Ime Udoka C He’s going to the boards hard but not doing anything else of note.
