By Stephen KerseySan Antonio Dispatch |
Tony Parker and the San Antonio Spurs have agreed to a contract extension worth a reported $50 million over the next four years. Prior to the deal, Parker was scheduled to become a free agent at the end of the season.
Said Parker: “I’m very happy to be a Spur. I always said I wanted to stay in San Antonio. It’s my home.”
Coach Gregg Popovich is happy Parker and the Spurs came to an agreement.
“We’re excited about it,” said Popovich. “He’s been a big part of what we’ve been doing around here for a lot of years. To have him in the fold and to be a Spur for this long is fantastic for us and hopefully for him to.”
The 28-year-old point guard is a three-time All-Star, has won three NBA championships with the Spurs and was named the Finals MVP in 2007. After being named to All-NBA Third Team in the 2008-09 season, Parker struggled with injuries and inconsistent play last year. However, following a summer of rest, Parker is healthy and looking forward to a bright future with the Spurs.
“Hopefully we can have a great season, win a lot of games and go far in the playoffs,” Parker said.
